About
Maker. Leader. Both.
For as long as I can remember, I've been two things at once. The kid painting murals on my bedroom walls while figuring out how to program an old dot matrix printer.
I'm drawn to hard problems that affect people who rarely get thoughtful solutions. The small business owner managing cash flow at midnight. The patient trying to navigate care across too many doctors and systems. The person moving through a legal process that was never designed with them in mind.
Lately, that's meant designing moments where machine intelligence creates experiences that feel made just for you, and trustworthy enough that you feel sure about what to do next.
I lead for the same reason I make: because the people doing the work matter as much as the work itself. The designers I lead are not a means to an end. I stay close, I stay honest, and I try to see things in people before they can see them in themselves. That's what the best people in my career did for me.
Twenty years in. The domains change. The drive to make things better for people who are often overlooked doesn't.
How I work
These aren't just values I hold. They're themes that have shown up consistently in feedback from the leaders and teams I've worked with.
How I build
I build things that matter and care about how they're made. The best solutions live at the intersection of what customers need, what the business requires, and what's actually buildable. I push for loveable, not just viable.
How I lead
Making is hard. I try to make everything around it less so. I lead from wherever the work needs me: setting direction out front, designing alongside when the problem needs it, or coaching from behind. The goal is always the same: push the work and the people doing it toward something better.
How I grow people
Making is messy. Evolving as a designer is even messier. I create space for designers to grow into their own, find their secret powers, and use them with purpose.
Experience
Led design for personalization and discovery across TV, mobile, and web, helping members find what to love next as Netflix expanded beyond shows and movies into games, podcasts, and live events.
Led design for expert services including tax, patents, and trademarks, creating end-to-end experiences that connect customers with professionals helping them navigate some of life's most important moments.
Led teams across payments, cash flow, and business banking, including the 0 to 1 financial platform that became QuickBooks Cash, helping small businesses manage cash flow and banking in one place.
Led 0 to 1 design of Evernote Spaces for Enterprise, a collaboration product that brought teams into a tool originally built for individual note-takers.
Led a team designing mobile healthcare experiences for patients and clinicians, bringing together fragmented care into a single unified experience while helping build the culture of a newly formed UX organization.
Designed mobile experiences across device ecosystems, focused on making technology feel human and usable for everyone.
Where it all started. Designed across industries and platforms, built a research practice, and developed the craft foundation that everything since has been built on.
Selected Work
Work that
ships.
Small business owners were juggling cash flow across disconnected tools with no single view of their money. QuickBooks saw every transaction but couldn't help them see the big picture.
Led end-to-end design from concept through launch, setting direction while jumping in as a maker when the work needed it. Built and retained a team of 7 through an intense environment; that same team stayed to keep building it after we shipped.
A QuickBooks business bank account, cash flow center, savings envelopes, and debit card, all in one native mobile and web experience integrated directly into QuickBooks Online.
I'm proud we shipped something beautiful under real pressure. This project reinforced something I believe deeply: that caring for people through hard moments is inseparable from doing great work.
Outcomes
Only 25% of customers were finishing their tax filing, with half dropping off at the information-gathering stage. One customer said it best: "I got so exhausted I switched to my local CPA." The experience was fragmented, confusing, and exhausting for customers and experts alike.
I worked as both coach and player. Partnered with the Service Delivery team to design the new customer workflow while guiding the team on the expert tool, onboarding new members mid-project, and keeping everyone grounded through the intensity of tax season. We shipped everything we said we would, when we said we would.
A reimagined end-to-end tax filing experience focused on collaboration. For customers, an updated flow with clear steps and transparent information. For experts, a new workflow tool that replaced their many disconnected tools. A dedicated CPA, supported by new messaging tools, provided guidance along the way.
The system we built became the foundation for all customer and expert collaboration at LegalZoom, expanding into patents, trademarks, and wills. We shifted how the company thought about service and product as a unified system, establishing new ways of working that outlasted the tax product itself.
Outcomes
Content Differentiation: Designing for what Netflix is becoming
As Design Manager for Member Experiences, I led a team of five designers across personalization, discovery, and content systems for 300M+ members, using machine intelligence to help members find what to love next.
Central to that work was building a content differentiation system across every Netflix surface: TV, mobile, and web. As Netflix expands beyond shows and movies into games, podcasts, and live content, members need to instantly understand what they're choosing. This system defines the foundational language for how content is expressed across the platform, including taxonomy, visual patterns, text signals, and asset strategy.
The design challenge was real, but the harder work was building a coalition across nearly every part of the organization, creative, product, marketing, and platform teams, to ensure the system was holistic and lasting, not just visual.
The work is in progress.
Beyond the Screen
Making for
others is in
everything I do.
Whether it's a birthday cake shaped like a ladybug for an insect-loving kid or a sourdough boule shared at breakfast with jam, I'm happiest when I'm creating something for someone else.
